England Defender Chris Smalling Tries His Hand At Rugby

May 15, 2016

England and Manchester United defender Chris Smalling is the latest member of The England Footballers Foundation to team up with BT Sport’s charitable initiative The Supporters Club and leave his sporting comfort zone.

The Manchester United defender teamed up with former Sale Sharks star, and the Aviva Premiership’s all-time record try scorer, Mark Cueto to test his rugby skills.

Smalling took on a number of skills-based challenges and led a session on healthy eating for the youngsters taking part in the day.

The 26-year-old centre back follows England team-mates Dele Alli and Gary Cahill in inspiring others to try out new sports and compete with established names in these fields.

Tom Leader, Sale Sharks, said: “Premiership Rugby and Sale Sharks have a long-standing relationship with BT Sport’s The Supporters Club which we’re delighted to further through role model visits such as Chris Smalling and Mark Cueto’s.

“The day highlighted something which is also very important to us: sport’s unique power to inspire and improve lives.”
